CALLERLAB

CALLERLAB is the International Association of Square Dance Callers. Callerlab exists to improve square dancing: To recruit, promote, and maintain the square dance activity. As an organization of square dance callers, it is Callerlab's mission to provide education and guidance to the leaders of our activity. CALLERLAB also maintains a suggested list of dancing programs, from Basic through C-3A.

Directory of Gay Square Dance Clubs

A service of the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs, this list is organized by U.S. regions -- East, Center, West and California -- Asian and Pacific, and Canada.

International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs

The IAGSDC is the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs, a lesbian and gay organization that is the umbrella organization for gay square dance clubs in the United States, Canada, and Australia, formed by and for lesbians and gay men in their community and for their friends.

Membership in IAGSDC clubs is open to all square dancers, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, ethnic background, or sexual orientation. Gay square dancing is high energy dancing. Since many gay square dancers can dance both the man's and woman's parts, they tend to be strong dancers with an excellent sense of position and set orientation.

The IAGSDC is active in the world of Modern Western Square Dancing. The Association is a member of Legacy, the non-profit international assembly of "trustees" representing all facets of square dancing. All IAGSDC clubs dance the Callerlab specified levels of Modern Western Square Dancing.

Square Dance History

Excerpt:

The square dance is an American institution. It began in New England when the first settlers and the immigrant groups that followed, brought with them their various national dances, which we now call folk dances, but which were the popular dances of the day in the countries of their origin - the schottische, the quadrille, the jigs and reels and the minuet, to name a few. After a week of toil in building new homes and carving homes out of virgin forest, the settlers would gather in the community center on Saturday evening and enjoy dancing their old-world favorites. As the communities grew and people of different backgrounds intermingled, so did their dances. As the repertoire increased, it became increasingly difficult for the average person to remember the various movements...

United Square Dancers of America, Inc.

The United Square Dancers of America, Inc. (USDA) was formed on June 26, 1981, during the National Square Dance Convention held in Seattle, Washington, and has grown to the size that approaches the representation of 310,000 dancers throughout the United States. USDA is an organization formed by dancers, for dancers, and is under the operational control of dancers.

Western Square Dancing - DOSADO.COM by Bill Heyman

Western Square Dancing - DOSADO.COM -- was established by Rob French in 1995 and has quickly become the largest portal or entryway to Square Dancing around the world! In December, 1999, Bill & Peggy Heyman of Marlborough, New Hampshire assumed responsibility for hosting these pages.

Redesigned with “Easy Navigation”, you can find a club, a caller, a cuer, an association or other internet resource for Square and Round Dancing faster here than on any other website. You, of course, can see the link to Clubs from the home page.

The DOSADO.COM Canadian page has many links to STATE Dancers Associations, individual clubs, callers and cuers around the world
