The
Material Queer : A Lesbigay Cultural Studies Reader (Queer

by Donald Morton (Editor)
The Material Queer is an innovative anthology
that offers a materialist understanding of marginal sexualities by
accounting for the full range of classic and contemporary
views. It breaks with the classic tradition in lesbian and
gay studies and also with ludic (post)modern theory by insisting
on the the embeddedness of gender and sexuality in the social
division of labor.
"This smart materialist critique of
postmodern theory is challenging, original, and provocative.
In the best sense it is the 'Western Civ' reader of
gay-lesbian-queer-studies." -- John D'Emilio, University of
North Carolina -- Greensboro, Director, Policy Institute of the
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
"The
Material Queer is a new threshold in postmodern lesbigay
theory. It translates Donald Morton's theoretical project of
red-ing queer theory into pedagogical practices and opens up new
spaces for Marxist boundary work in cultural theory.
... A truly groundbreaking text that will have a tremendous impact
on ... queer theory and cultural studies in general." --
Mas'ud Zavarzadeh, Author of Seeing
Films Politically.
"Morton's
historically wide-ranging anthology and incisive commentary make
for a powerful intervention in the current course of queer studies
-- one sure to spark productive reflection and debate. A
must-read for all students of cultural critique from the
margins." -- Gary C. Thomas, University of Minnesota
"Donald
Morton has always been a voice warning against the secondary
importance of academic discourse ... [but] these wide-ranging
essays will surely come to something -- a politics at once
explosive, productive, and vitally queer." -- David Bergman,
Towson State University
